Can Online Gambling Get You Instant Cash?

It’s not uncommon for newcomers to online gambling to see web casinos as virtual cash machines. Which isn’t surprising, given the way some of the less responsible operators in business market themselves

If their tv and web ads were to be believed, they’d be handing out huge jackpots to pretty much anyone lucky enough to sign up and play their games.

Of course, common sense should tell you that this is rarely the case. Across the board, online gambling should be seen purely as a form of entertainment. You can go to any Casino online and get lost in these games for hours on end, but it’s important to have realistic expectations.

Still, there will always be those who insist that gambling online is a way of generating instant cash.  You play, you win, you withdraw money and you laugh all the way to the bank.

The question being – to what extent (if any) is this a realistic attitude to online gambling in general?

Living on the Edge

Irrespective of which casino you head to, absolutely every online video game has something in common. That being, an irreversible and unavoidable house edge.

This applies to every single online slot, classic casino game and so on across the board. There are no exceptions to the rule, nor is there anything you can do to eliminate the house edge. And it is because there is a house edge in place that the term ‘the house always wins’ remains 100% accurate.

Each and every time you gamble online, you are doing exactly that – gambling.  Under no circumstances will you ever come across an online casino game with a perfect 50/50 chance of winning or losing. Even if the odds are only fractionally tipped in favour of the house (like with some roulette bets), they still have the advantage over you. All of which means that sooner or later, the house generates a profit at players’ expense.

Now, this doesn’t mean that pocketing a prize and walking away with a profit is impossible. Instead, it simply means that with every penny you wager, the house is more likely to win than you are. Some games have a huge house edge, while others keep things closer to even. Though in all instances, the odds are never in your favour and the house always wins…eventually.

Free Cash Offers

In terms of the actual games on offer, it’s a pretty cut and shut issue. With a house edge in place, the house always wins at some point or another.

But what about those undeniably appealing introductory bonus offers? Particularly where there’s a no-deposit bonus available, doesn’t it make sense to grab as much ‘free’ cash as you can and pocket it?

The answer – there’s no such thing as ‘free’ cash online. However generous a bonus offer looks, you cannot and will not pocket a free lunch…as they say.  Even when a casino advertises a no-deposit bonus, this doesn’t mean it’s money you’ll be able to get your hands on. With wagering requirements of anything from 10X to 100X, you’ll need to spend a serious amount of your own money before the ‘free’ cash is accessible.

Admittedly, there is the occasional exception to the rule. Some of the better casinos are starting to hand out no-wager free spins and the like, which provide players with the opportunity to pocket or withdraw anything they win. Winning may be capped at nothing more than say £10 or so, but this is still technically something for nothing.

At least, if you’re lucky enough to pocket a prize along the way.

Misleading Marketing

Referring back to the previous point, it’s essential to take the marketing messages of today’s online casinos with a pinch of salt. They’re becoming more responsible all the time, but still have a habit of portraying online casinos as all-access cash machines,

They aren’t – and to approach them as such is a recipe for disaster.

It’s the same when it comes to introductory bonuses and promotions in general. You’d be forgiven for thinking that there’s a world of fabulous freebies to take advantage of, with absolutely no strings attached. As it happens, it’s quite the opposite – bigger freebies attaching more strings than you’ll know what to do with.

Just as is the case elsewhere, therefore, it’s wise to use your own common sense and judgment over the apparent promises and ploys of the casinos themselves.

Common Sense Prevails

Rounding things off at this point, it is essential to let common sense be your guide at all times. It’s a known fact that casinos (and the businesses behind them) generate huge sums of cash at the expense of their customers. In return, the customer is provided with an enjoyable and entertaining experience, with the slight chance of pocketing a profit.

Think of it this way – if there was any realistic way of guaranteeing a profitable experience with a casino, it would have been uncovered and exploited by now. In doing so, it would also have thrown the entire industry into jeopardy. The fact that this hasn’t happened means that there isn’t such a loophole in the whole thing to be found.

The more you look for one, the easier it becomes to make unwise and ill-informed decisions.

Speak to any independent gambling authority in the world and they’ll tell you the same – gambling is all about enjoyment and entertainment. If your sole intention is to generate profits, you’re barking up the wrong tree. Likewise, if you get into online gambling under the assumption you’ll make any money out of it whatsoever, you’re on a slippery slope.

Play for fun, enjoy the games available and never spend more than you can afford to. And the moment it starts to become more about the money than the enjoyment of the whole thing, it’s time to walk away and find a new hobby!
